BMW History

Karl Friedrich Rapp is the name of the founder of BMW - one of the biggest world wide car manufacturing companies. BMW or Bayerische Motoren Werke (Bavarian Motor Works) was founded in 1916 as a successor to the Rapp Motor.

Many people think that the logo of BMW comes from a spinning white propeller seen in the background of the blue sky. This may be so but in fact it is known that it also comes from the white and blue flag of Bavaria - the largest state of Germany. The capital city of the state is Munich and this is the place where even today we can find the BMW Headquarters.

In 1916 with the foundation of the company a contract was secured for building V12 engines. These engines were about to be used in the creation of the automobiles from Austro-Daimler. These 12 cylinders V engines were at first used in aircrafts which is the original plan of the BMW Company. Taking in account the time when the company was founded it was very likely for them to continue like that.

However in 1919 after the World War I and the Treaty of Versailles the production of aircraft in Germany was prohibited and that quickly changed the politics of BMW. They began making brakes for the Rail transport. Soon after that BMW was able to design a motorcycle engine which was used for the creation of a motorcycle called with the model name Victoria. However Victoria was not built by BMW but by another company in Nuremberg.

In 1924 BMW made a model of a motorcycle which was the first one they built - the R32. This was a turning point in the BMW history because it was a major achievement and for decades they used its technology - 500 cc engines cooled down by the air. Soon after that BMW added one new innovation - the driveshaft. It came to replace the chain for driving the rear wheel and became a mark of BMW for quite some time.

In the German city Eisenach in 1927 began the production of Dixi - under license but only a year after that the Dixi Company was bought by BMW and they began mass production together with the model Austin Seven.

When the World War I began BMW took its place in it because of the German army's motorized division. They used BMW R75 together with BMW R12. Because of the high need of engines BMW note that period as highly profitable. BMW was the main supplier and even today words like Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht brings many memories. Some of the best planes in that historical time used the BMW aero-engines and till the 1945 more than 30 000 planes with these engines were manufactured.

BMW even made researches which enabled the company to make different jet engines for weapons. With the use of some men power consisting mainly by prisoners of the war BMW made many rocket-based weapons that were used in the war.

Soon after the creation of the rocket-based weapons parts of the company were bombed. Soviets razed to the ground most of the company located in eastern Germany and the base factory in Munich was almost completely destroyed.

After the war BMW was not able to quickly recover because of the need to rebuild the factory in Munich. After that when the restrictions from the Allies applied BMW was banned for three long years in which the company was forbidden from producing motorcycles until 1948 and cars until 1952.

In 1951 the Bavarian company was able to regain all trademarks and it looked like it was finally able to recover and start again from what was left. In 1959 Herbert Quandt became the "wheel" which turned the BMW around because he denied a deal with Daimler-Benz and soon after that he increased his share in the BMW Company up to 50%.

The name of Kurt Golda is stated as the man who incited Quandt to do this step and in the same year BMW began production of the BMW 700 which was based on the BMW 600. This small car used 2-cylinder, air-cooled engines and some years later it was renamed to "LS". Coupe and some cabriolet series were also manufactured.

In 1963 BMW offered dividends to the shareholders of the company and in 1966 the factory in Munich reached its maximum capacity and BMW bought Hans Glas GmbH. This deal enabled BMW to use factories in Landshut and Dingolfing.

With some new style provided by Bertone in 1972 BMW began production of 5 new series and in the years to follow the company made a big progress in the market. For 6 years under the leadership of Bernd Pischetsrieder BMW was able to expand its deal in the market by buying from British Aerospace the Rover Group. Rover Group's history starts in 1986 and till the moment when BMW owned it this company was able to achieve many things like for example the Rover 400 in 1990.

However the Rover was sold to Phoenix Venture Holdings and Ford Motor Company because of some years of losses for BMW. Jokingly the press called the Rover "The English Patient" after the release of the namesake film. This however was not very hard on BMW and they were spared from taking the blame. It looks like that even the British press was not very enthusiastic about the Rover.

BMW began production outside of Germany in 1994. New factories were made in South Carolina and even today the manufacturing of BMW X5 and BMW Z4 is made there. There are factories in some other places too like Oxford, Goodwood and others. After some time of assembly BMW began production in South Africa. Today BMW exports more than 50 000 3 Series vehicles yearly to Japan, USA, Africa, Australia and the Middle East.

In order to serve the market in Eastern Europe and Middle East BMW are planning to begin construction of a new plant located in Cyprus or Greece. A plant in Chennai, India already opened production in 2007.

BMW F10 5 Series Launch Video

New BMW 5 Series

According to BMW, the new BMW 5 series brings life to the phrase "joy is dynamic in its most beautiful form: the new BMW 5 Series sedan". The car has also been referred to as fantastic, "an exploration of beauty" and incredible.

The BMW 5 series has always been the car that comes to mind when people think of luxury cars in the executive saloon class. And this little car is about more than just luxury. In fact, it's the most important car on the BMW line. The car was first introduced to the BMW lineup in 2004 and has become increasingly important to the car company ever since.

But luxury is exactly what this car is. And with the new BMW 5 series coming out in 2010, it's not important to only test drive one around the lot, but to test drive it at home with a leasing option. When you're in the market for a BMW, the cheapest option is always to lease, to avoid getting stuck for too long with a top heavy car payment that you can't hope to take care of each month. For business owners and salespeople, contract hire is the way to go when you're looking into BMWs. The new BMW 5 series is an excellent car to drive when you're attempting to impress clients whether you're picking them up for lunch or just parking in their lot and pointing to your car out the window. But what's more impressive is owning your new BMW 5 series the right way-contract hire will not only help you avoid a costly purchase for luxury but will also allow the option to upgrade when newer models appear on the market, like this year, with the unveiling of the 2011 5 series.

Critics consistently say that a new BMW 5 series will not be able to top the previous version, but according to reviews of the car found far and wide across the internet, BMW consistently tops the marker for a car that meets and beats the technological threshold for automobile manufacturing and is still able to maintain a sleek, sexy look for their vehicles.

While the E60 BMW had a look and a style that drive customers away, the look and feel of the new BMW 5 series is much more appealing to both the high class and middle class consumer, giving all consumers something to look forward to when they get behind the wheel of this car.

Unlike previous 5 series, the new BMW 5 series is built off of an entirely new chassis, so its exterior has little in common with the previous models. Like the new x5, the new 5 series features a double wishbone in front and the new model also comes equipped with Flex-Ray protocol, shock absorbers and active steering to provide drivers with the most pleasurable on-road experience possible.

The new BMW 5 series comes packed with programmable buttons and now features 8-speed automatic transmission, making it a top contender in the fight against Lexus for the top notch spot of best luxury car on the market.

Like all BMWs, the new BMW 5 series not only comes packed with buttons and other nifty features, but also has all of the bells and whistles you would expect from the newest thing on the BMW lineup. You can choose from leather or fabric seats, a variety of "luxury" colors-just don't ask for it in black and white-and you can even choose how deep and what color to get your windows tinted, depending on the dealer.

The New BMW 5-Series, the BMW F10

The new BMW 5-series (BMW F10) aims to change or better yet - revolutionize the limousine sedan concept. At first sight, you can't help notice that the new 5-series BMW has a much better design that the previous generation 5-series. The design is classic, elegant and dynamic at the same time and it looks like it's inspired from the famous 5-series E39 model of the 90's which some say it's the most loved and appreciated 5-series generation.

The new 5-series offers a wide range of engine options, such as the 8-cylinder engine, three 6-cylinder gasoline engines, two diesel engines and one turbo-diesel 4-cylinder engine. The most powerful is the 8-cylinder engine which will power the BMW 550i and benefits from BMW's TwinPower Turbo and High Precision Injection technologies for a maximum power of 407 hp. The most efficient is the 4-cylinder turbo-diesel which powers the 520d and promises a fuel consumption of 5 liters per 100 kilometers while offering 184 hp.

The 6-cylinder diesel engines offer 258 hp for the 530d and 204 hp for the 525d BMW.

Transmission options include the new, 8-speed BMW automatic transmission as well as the standard 6-speed manual gearbox.

The interior features an elegant design and has certain similarities with the 7-series. The dashboard is driver oriented which guarantees an unique driving experience, which is definitive for a BMW.

The new 5-series comes with new technologies such as Surround View which assists the driver, Collision Warning - a new speed limiting technology, Lane Change and Lange Departure Warning, the now-usual HUD (Head-Up Display) and the BMW Night Vision system.

The BMW 5-series' price on the European market starts at 40,000 EUR in Germany for the 520d version and can go as high as 70,000 EUR for the 550i version.

One of the most distinguishing BMW parts is the double kidney grilles. This stylish grille sets the BMW apart from other cars, giving it a handsome finish as it glides down the highway. The double kidney grilles also give the BMW optimal cooling, allowing air to reach the internal parts. This improves performance and reduces wear and tear on the interior parts.

Another one of the outstanding BMW parts is the four headlight setup. These provide optimal lighting no matter the driving terrain, as well as an eye catching display. It is readily apparent that when four headlights are coupled with double kidney grilles that a classic BMW is on the road.

The BMW E34 version 5 Series – The Best 5 Series Ever?

The E34 5 Series was released by BMW in 1987 in Europe but didn't reach the American market until 1989, it had a massive change in appearance compared to its predecessor the E28. The E34 was a much more matured model in its style, comfort & performance by far, & in my opinion the E34 was & still is the best 5 series ever produced by BMW even though it ceased production in 1996. It is known as one of the strongest cars produced by BMW.

The E34 5 Series was a very popular model in its time & was a very strong competitor towards Mercedes, in fact it was the first strongest competitor since the second world war resulting in a total of 1,331,056 E34's produced throughout the globe. The most popular model of the E34 era was the 525i with a massive 434,549 produced (I still own one). The amazing design of this fantastic model was by Clause Luthe (Head Designer) & Ercole Spada.

The M5 E34 was produced between 1989 – 1995 & was completely built by hand in Garching, Germany. The earlier E34 M5's were built with the same engine as its predecessor the E28, the 3.5L engine produced 315bhp & could reach 0 - 60mph in 6.3 seconds. The later version of the E34 M5 had a different engine from 1991 onwards in Europe, it was a 3.8L producing 337bhp & was capable of reaching 0 – 60mph in an amazing 5.9 seconds. Unfortunately the 3.8L was not available in the market in South Africa & North America but with the 3.5L being just as fun who needed it?

Overall I love all the 5 Series versions but I believe that the E34 was the best BMW 5 Series ever produced in history!

The E28 Version of the BMW 5 Series

The E28 was introduced to Europe in 1981 & was the second generation of the BMW 5 Series designed by Claus Luthe & built in Munich, Germany. The E28 was the replacement for the earlier E12 version 5 Series that had been around since 1972. Even though the newer E28 looked very similar to the E12 it did feature a few modifications such as more choices of engine size, a few style updates & it was lower for more stability on the road.

The E28 had a lot more to offer than its predecessor the E12 version of the 5 Series, BMW gave the option of more engine sizes such as the 518, 518i, 520i, 524d, 524td, 525i, 525e, 528i, 535i, M535i & the first M5 that the world seen. The E28 BMW M5 was launched in 1985 & was exclusive to an Amsterdam motor show where it was first exposed. The M5 had the S28 3.5L fuel injected engine & produced an amazing 286 bhp which enabled it to reach 0-60 mph in an astonishing 6.2 seconds, however the American emission regulations enforced the M5 to be built with a catalytic converter for the American market which unfortunately decreased the M5's power by 30 bhp resulting in it only able to produce 256 bhp instead of its 286 bhp it was capable of.

The North American version of the E28 came well equipped with electric power windows, central locking, air conditioning, electric power sunroof, cruise control, alloy wheels & fog lights, all these features were fitted to the E28 5 Series as standard, however the M5 had all these features plus leather interiors & an on board computer (OBC). The E28 5 Series was around until 1987 when its successor the more matured E34 version was released, although the E28 was still sold as a new car in the American market until late 1988 as the E34 was not available in America until early 1989.

The E12 Version Of The BMW 5 Series

The BMW 5 Series first made an appearance in 1972 when it was manufactured in Munich & Dingolfing, Germany & was given the code name E12. The 5 Series was designed to replace the 'Neue Klasse' (new class) mid-sized sedan and was named the 5 Series because it was BMW's fifth new class platform to be designed.

Although the E12 version of the 5 Series was released in 1972 in Munich it still was not available for the American market until 1975. The later models of the E12 produced for the American market were built for luxury and contained other features such as leather interiors, wood trim, electric power windows & even air conditioning.

The E12 5 Series was manufactured at the BMW plant in Munich until 1981 but due to the high demand for the E12 in the South African market the 5 Series was exported to Rosslyn, South Africa in a kit form to be assembled at the BMW plant there too. Manufacturing the E12 5 Series continued in Rosslyn until 1984, although the rest of the world had already been exposed to the newer E28 version of the 5 Series which became available in 1981.

There were many available models of the E12 5 Series, these included the 518i, 520i, 520, 525, 528i, 530i & the M535i which totalled to 722,435 E12 models that were produced across the world between 1972 - 1984. The M535i was produced in 1979, it had the 3.5L M30 in-line six cylinder engine that produced 218bhp, it was the only official BMW Motor-sport designed E12 model of the 5 Series.

A 3-Series Or 5-Series?

It seems almost impossible to do a rational comparison when you're deciding on which car to get for your next ride based on the topic above. I mean, how can you possibly compare a sporty BMW 3-series to a luxury (yet sporty too) 5-series, right?

But then again, there is actually only a tiny gap between the 3 and the 5.

Simply put, the 3-series is geared towards providing the owner a more sporty driving experience while the 5-series is more focused towards comfort and luxury. But yet when it comes to decision time, one can never decide almost instantly which model to get although the differences are quite obvious.

So what does the 3-series have that the 5 doesn't?

Well, for starters it's the sportiness that the 3 exudes that no other BMW models can match. It has always been that way since day one. The 3-series has always been labeled as a performance and adrenalin pumping machine. Doesn't matter if the car came with a 1.6-liter engine or loaded with the awesome 3.2-liter inline 6, it still managed to capture the hearts of both the young and old.

No other sedan could ever come close to the sportiness displayed by the BMW 3-series. It was the car which earned the title "The Ultimate Sports Sedan" by many automobile magazines. And it still carries that title proudly until today.

But what about the 5-series, and how does it fare against its younger sibling?

To say that the 5-series is "inferior" and not as popular as the 3-series would be a total lie because it is in a league of its own.

The 5 never really had the looks compared to its younger sibling but that all changed when BMW launched the E90 5-series. It's shark-like appearance and smooth muscular body lines simply "killed" the 3-series. Courtesy of Chris Bangle, the E90 caused a wave of mixed responses world-wide with its controversial yet strikingly aggressive appearance.

But looks wasn't everything. The 5-series also had the power to go with it. As "bulky" as it may seem, but it surprised many by delivering power that was almost at par, if not even better than the 3-series.

While the 3-series was sporty and fast, the 5-series feels much more planted to the ground and gave a more solid ride. There really isn't a "which-is-a-better car" thingy here because each one of them has its own strengths and weaknesses. You can't even say that the 3-series would sell better and have a better resale value as it is the most popular model in the BMW stable because sales for the 5-series have even surpassed the 3-series in recent years in some countries.

However, if you really must ask me, I would have to say I'd choose the 3-series, but then only by a hair's breadth. Personally, I've developed a soft spot for the 3-series since its hey days, and the beauty of it has somehow remained deeply rooted in my heart until today.

However bear in mind that no matter which model you choose to get, you'll never go wrong with a BMW. It possesses beauty, power and charisma all over. And it's not really the BMW badge that gets you excited all the time, but it's the thrill and exhilaration that the car gives you every time you fire up the ignition and put pedal to the metal.

Now, that's what we call "The Ultimate Driving Machine".

The Exterior of the M5 Shows Its Powerful Performance

The BMW M5 possesses the performance of a sports car and a body sort of a sedan or a saloon. The E28 version of the M5, which was produced in 1985 up to 1988, was by hand built by motorsport technicians. It was considered as the quickest production sedan in the world. Both left hand and right hand drive versions of the M5 was provided together with north american Specs version and South African specs version.

The E34 version of the M5 was also entirely hand built by either a team or just one of M workers. The M5 also had a singular road wheel design that was branded as surprising by others. The wheels of the M5 also came up with bolted-on wheel covers which had 5 spoke amalgamate wheels under it. The wheel cover went into a revamp later after folk regarded it as having'white-wall' tires.

The E39 M5 on the other hand, wasn't built by hand anymore. During its release, competing brands also released vehicles with relatively stronger engine. The E93 version of the M5 had 3 updates before it ended production in 2003.

The E60 version of the M5 was introduced in 2005. It uses individual throttle bodies in each of its cylinder to dispose of the throttle plate. This version of the M5 which is still in continuous production makes use of a 7-speed semi automatic transmission and a stiffened aluminum chassis. A touring body kind of the M5 was released in 2007 and is still ceaselessly produced right now.

The exterior of the M5 shows its strong performance. From each detail like the chrome plated chrome steel exhaust and the bonnet which holds impressive curves. The inside of the M5 also guarantees comfort and elegance all in one with the use of opulent merino leather and a sports style multi function steering wheel. The instrument panels also seem to become illuminated with the red needles and white scales present.

There are additional BMW parts that are not as obvious to the naked eye that create the unique driving conditions that BMW cars are known best for. BMW engines are finely tuned to deliver smooth yet powerful handling under any conditions. Owners know that the BMW is more than a reliable vehicle - owning a BMW is a way of life.

Perhaps the most famous attribute of the BMW is its responsiveness to its driver. When operating a BMW, the separation between the driver and the road is blurred. Every direction the car is given is performed seamlessly, thanks to the careful construction of every part underneath the hood. The attention to detail and beauty of a BMW is difficult to match.

The Used BMW 5-Series is No Small Achievement

Since BMW started building cars after the second world war, they have never looked back. The Munich-based firm has made a solid statement in the auto world by being a leader in luxury vehicle brands. This claim to fame has spread worldwide to the extent that one would be hard-pressed not to find a BMW model anywhere on the four continents. BMW, as it is, labels itself "the ultimate driving machine" in its classy ads. This claim is not mere talk but can be backed by years of delivering solid quality and customer satisfaction. The German-originated luxury car maker churns out many different brands every year but our immediate interest is in the M5 or the Series 5.

Brand new Series 5 BMWs can run you around $45000 and come with an impressive array of features and add-ons. Other than the cars attractive appearance and aerodynamics which surpass most in its line of competitors, the BMW Series 5 also boasts state of the art engine technology and transmission that continue to deliver smooth and powerful movements in almost any terrain. While new BMWs are definitely still a hot ticket item, more people are being gravitated towards used models.

Used BMW Series 5 have continued their solid sales match since the M5 Series debuted. They are a great attraction to upper middle class professionals, businessmen and even celebrities who love the quiet engine and smooth transmission. The car's appearance also has a unisex appeal to it making it not too "girly" for the boys and not too "boyish" for the girls.

The M5 comes with a standard V8 six-cylinder 225 horse power engine. Newer sedans made after 2006 now boast up to 360 horse power. The new 530xi models come with all-wheel power for faster transport. The transmission also boasts new computer-aided guidance not to mention new-brand ABS brake system with anti-skid mechanism. The Series 5 is truly built to survive and thrive in any weather and any terrain.

The interior is also a marvel of sorts. Boasting standard custom leather and embroidery, the M5 comes with computer-controlled AC systems and temperature monitoring aids. Like its peers the Series 3 and Series 1, the Series 5 also comes equipped with the legendary Bose surround system. Additives can be a DVD Blue-Ray player with monitor and a build-in navigation system. Custom models also allow the user to request for XM satellite radio service to be preinstalled.

Certified used Series 5 BMWs have been quite an attraction in the recent times. This can partly be attributed to a strained economy where most people are tightening their spending. While the upper middle class to the wealthy hardly feel the pinch of the current credit crunch, the regular bargain hunters are more likely to go for the used brand rather than the new one.

A great place to commence your search for the used BMW Series 5 is online. A simple Google entry will reveal lots of sources, from car dealerships to individuals and wholesalers who can procure the ultimate driving machine for anyone with the pocket. EBay motors is another excellent source.

2011 BMW 5 Series Saloon

The brand name BMW has always brought forth the image of quality and luxury. Everything from their sedans to their race cars have maintained an element of grace and beauty that is hard to match in the auto industry. BMW was founded in 1916 and is the parent company of Rolls Royce. The company has enjoyed a long history of automotive development and continues to keep its place on the cutting edge of technology.

Nothing epitomizes this better then the BMW 5 series. The 5 series has been in production since the mid 70's and fills the category of mid size executive car. Currently the series is entering its sixth generation with new advancements in technology and materials. Currently it is sold in sedan and touring car models.

The series has done so well that many European nations use cars in this class as police cars and government vehicles. Make no mistake the cars not only look nice but their performance matches their appeal. Add to the fact that they are durable and very comfortable and you have a winning combination. All of these features justify the price tag that is asked for each and every model.

Of course this has been true of the early models as well. With each update in the series the cars in the lineup have received overhauls, upgrades, modifications, and redesigns to make them more appealing. Add to the mix that BMW is constantly upgrading its engine lineup to be more powerful yet more fuel efficient at the same time and you have a very reliable series.

Another statistic that's constantly under revision between series upgrades is the size of the vehicles themselves. Sometimes adding half an inch here and two inches here can make all the difference in a car. This applies to all cars not just luxury or sports models. BMW has taken this into consideration, especially since its cars are so readily available to so many.

People of different ethnic backgrounds usually have different body proportions as well. That being said the constant upgrade and redesign of the size and the interior is designed to be a one size fits all. This is for the short and skinny to the tall and rotund. Safety is another feature that's constantly upgraded and the 2011 series is no slouch in this area either.

Aerodynamics are reworked with each generation to give newer models a sleeker and more modern appearance. This of course affects more than just appearance and increases the handling of the cars themselves. It can also improve fuel economy as better aerodynamics means less resistance to the car which equals less work for the engine to do. This is something that every car manufacture tries to accomplish but BMW manages to outperform the rest as usual.

BMW's 5 series is one of the most prominent car lineups in the world. As they begin to bring in the six series cars many car fans can't help but be overtaken with a feeling of glee. After all inside every man or woman that admires cars is a driver that wants to get behind the wheel and see what it can do.

Classic Cars - The BMW 5 Series

When it comes to the used car sector one car has dominated above all others: the BMW 5 Series. For almost 40 years this has been the world's favourite executive saloon and there's no sign of it slowing down.

The original 1972 design is a true classic. It lasted, with only a few minor revisions, right the way through until 1987. The earliest versions are few and far between. Most have rusted away or been sold as scrap, but collectors do value them and a good condition early model can fetch almost 2,000 pounds.

The first major upgrade came with the E34 which featured a host of high performance models culminating in the outstanding M5. It has become a staple with used car buyers over the years. Durable and reliable it's the kind of car you can drive for a couple of years for a little bit of cheap motoring. It picked up where the original left off and ran until 1996, when the E39 was already earning a reputation as an all time great in the four door saloon market.

Thanks to improved power, outstanding handling and rock solid reliability it has fostered a reputation as being 'the best car in the world'. It cemented the position of the BMW 5 Series as a true all time classic and consolidated its place at the head of the executive saloon market. It is one of the most highly sought models on the used market. However, with recent launches, prices have been pushed down. If you're smart you can find some real bargains.

Until now the BMW 5 Series retained most of the features that made it great, but in 2003 it got a severe overhaul thanks to design boss Chris Bangle. He introduced a radical new look and design. Die hard fans were appalled and a series of hate groups surfaced on the internet. Time will tell if this goes on to become a used car classic as fans re-evaluate it based on its own considerable powers or fades away to become a pariah car.

Now there's a new BMW 5 Series on the block. Bangle has gone and this new model returns to basics. Fans are delighted to see some hallmark features returning. It looks the real deal and seems set to recapture its place as the leading executive car in its class. The future looks as bright as the past.

5 Million 5 Series Cars Already Sold - Take a Look at the Glorious History of BMW!

The BMW 5 Series cars hit the market in the year 1972 and BMW is still continuing its production till date. These vehicles were released as predecessors to New Six Series vehicles. They fall under the category of executive cars. They're made available in both the sedan as well as touring body styles.

The 5 series was named after the preceding four models like the 700, New Class, New Six Bavaria and the CS models. The 5 series model was released as a replacement to the past New Six sedan vehicles.

The vehicle body was designed by Marcello Gandini and was built based on the Bertone Garmisch from the BMW, which was released in the year 1970. Two other cars namely Alfa Romeo Alfetta and the Fiat were also designed based on the same design.

Five generations of 5 Series models were released till date namely the E12 during the period 1972 to 1981, E28 during the period 1982 to 1988, E34 during the period 1988 to 1996, E39 from 1995 to 2003 and E60 or E61 from the year 2003 to till present.

The first digit in the name - "5" in this case represents the series name and the other two digits that are followed by the 5 represent the engine size in deciliters. Additional words are also added at the end of the 3 digit to represent the fuel type, petrol or diesel, transmission or engine details and the style of the body, in some of the vehicles.

Having sold over 5million 5-series vehicles, it makes you wonder what has BMW really got in stores for the upcoming times. The fascinating 5-series wallpapers and concept car images simply reflect that they'll be far superior than the present model by all means. So, let us wait and watch the show.
